詩人將對愛人的思念，看成是劇情寫進詩裡，《Sonnet 28》看似抱怨日夜的折磨，實為思念太甚；《Sonnet 29》則是十四行詩全集中，詩人首度以主述者的口吻，傾訴內心的痛苦，這首詩也廣泛應用在文學、影劇作品裡，詩人艾略特T.S. Eliot甚至引用詩句融進《Ash Wednesday》開場（見延伸閱聽處）。
