《sonnet 42》陷入三角戀的詩人，同時失去少年與情婦的愛，卻不認為自己是輸家。詩人與少年愛上了同一人，證明了詩人與少年在精神層面是如此密不可分。

《sonnet 43》裡，透過少年在日、夜場景形象的對比，比喻少年的離去令詩人難以忘懷，思念在夜裡都因少年而發出光芒。
