《sonnet 40》裡，詩人的愛被少年「偷」走了，即使遭少年所鄙視，仍不願與對方為敵。表達戀愛時所展現的義無反顧與包容，更隱約透露三角戀的跡象。

《sonnet 41》夾雜著詩人對一段三角戀責怪卻寬容的心緒，為少年編織藉口。一切皆因少年的年輕氣盛所致，因此背叛是如此理所當然。
