莎士比亞的十四行詩在結構安排上，即便與義大利傳統不一樣，在第九行轉換語氣還是遵循義大利的傳統。莎翁很喜歡用交易、借貸等商業比喻愛情的有無，在第四首十四行詩也以財富譬喻美貌；而時間流逝的警示，也在第四首、第五首強調。
